PASS – Promotion of Accessible and Social inclusive Sports, funded by European Education and Culture Executive Agency, is a project thought to support the diffusion of sport activities that allow the participation of disabled and able-bodied people at the same level (adaptive sports), creating really inclusive environments.

As stated in the EU Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021-2030 and in the Conclusions of the Council on Access to sport for persons with disabilities (2019), persons with disabilities have the right to protection from any form of discrimination and equal opportunities. Accessible and inclusive sport, leisure and recreational activities are considered essential for full participation in society. They increase wellbeing and give everyone, including persons with disabilities, the opportunity to develop and utilize their potential.
Participation in sport can contribute to improving the well-being of persons with disabilities as well as their physical and mental health, while increasing personal mobility and autonomy and promoting social inclusion.

On the other hand, also people without disabilities can benefit from this experience, because inclusion is a two-way phenomenon, in which not only the disabled person adapts to the behavior of non-disabled ones, but also the whole team must make an effort to adapt to and understand his/her point of view.

PROJECT’S OBJECTIVES
Promote awareness of the existence of inclusive sports practices and their attractiveness through different means and at different levels
Promote sports that can be practiced by persons with disabilities alongside those without disabilities
Promote continuity in sports practice, especially to people with disabilities
Increase the number of people with disabilities engaged in sports and recreational activities
Promote the normality of people with disabilities and overcoming prejudices
Promote healthy lifestyle, solidarity and socialization opportunities
– Enable the exchange of experiences and good practices in the field of inclusive sport

The project’s short-term impact will be the establishment of inclusive sports programs in various communities, providing individuals with disabilities the opportunity to engage in physical activities and develop new skills. For the people without disabilities, this will represent the opportunity of access to new sport possibilities that allow them to change perspective, seeing the disabled people not as a different category that does something different, but as members of the same team where all are valorized for their own capacities. In the medium term, the project will then create a culture of inclusivity, leading to the integration of individuals with disabilities into mainstream sports activities, and in the long term, the project will contribute to change societal perceptions of disability and create a more inclusive society.
